More flights, more passengers and, consequently, much more chaos with the arrival of summer for the traffic inside – and close to – the Elmas airport. There are not enough parking spaces, and you have to pay for them after the first 10 or 20 minutes (depending on the area). Thus many users leave their vehicles parked at the edge of the roundabout at the entrance or on the neighboring streets, creating dangers for those in transit and for pedestrians.

Sogaer has decided to take measures: the stalls of the former Italia car park will soon be made available, free of charge for the first two hours. Authorizations from regulatory bodies are awaited. But in the intentions of the airport management company, which will not earn a cent on the operation, the go-ahead should arrive by early July: there are talks of about 150 stalls in the southern area of the terminal, which can be reached along via dei Trasvolatori.

Two hours, according to the evaluations carried out by the technicians of the airport, are a good margin to accompany or pick up someone who has to travel or arrives in Cagliari, see an exhibition or follow the presentation of a book or buy in the various shops.

The management company received that area following an expropriation, which was aimed at building the control tower. But plans have changed and the infrastructure, when it is, will be built in another space.

Meanwhile, Sogaer is asking that anyone who has to leave show up at the airport at least two hours before the flight, to avoid blockages at the checkpoints.
