The 57-year-old man responsible for the car crash that killed a woman on Via Po in Cagliari on Christmas Eve turned himself in today, presenting himself voluntarily at the local police station on Via Crespellani.

The man, with a criminal record and a resident of Pula, arrived at the station accompanied by his lawyer . His driving license was immediately revoked, and he will also be charged with hit-and-run and failure to render assistance.

The accident occurred on the evening of December 24th . The woman, a thirty-year-old, sustained serious injuries and was taken by emergency services to Brotzu Hospital with a red code , where she was later released with a thirty-day prognosis. The car driven by the 57-year-old, who had not stopped after the accident, was later located by local police thanks to video surveillance footage and witness statements . It was a rental car, available at the time of the accident to the 58-year-old from Pula, who was subsequently unaccounted for.

Today the turning point, with the man who turned himself in voluntarily, perhaps feeling hunted.

This was not an isolated incident: between December 24th and 26th, Local Police personnel responded to investigate two other hit-and-run accidents , fortunately with no injuries. In these circumstances too, the responsible vehicles were located thanks to traces left at the scene and the valuable assistance of witnesses.
