In the San Benedetto neighborhood in Cagliari, there is once again great concern about thefts in commercial premises. After what happened in the past few months, with a "break-in" in a bar on the corner of via Rossini and via Corelli , in recent weeks the targeted area is that between via Cavaro and via Machiavelli, where a raid on the Pasteur pastry shop had previously been reported. A series that intensified in the second part of January and that has continued in recent days.

The first episode of the new long series took place on January 17: shortly before 10 pm, thieves broke into the "Ginkgo Beauty" center in via Machiavelli. " They broke down the door, entered a small hole inside and stole 70 euros in cash ," reports Rita Cruccas, the owner. "They didn't do any other damage to the shop, it happened at a time when there were still other shops open on the street." A few hours later, another theft, from a hairdresser in via Cavaro: very often the technique used was the same.

The series of thefts in San Benedetto continued in the following days, both in other beauty centers and hair salons but also in other places, including a car wash in via Tommaseo and a theft inside a car in via Machiavelli. Among the latest, another break-in inside a beauty center: «Last Thursday, at night», the story of Angelica Telunts, owner of Likanails in via Tommaseo. « They opened the shutter, broke the glass and stole money from the register. We only noticed it the next morning ».

The escalation has led the shopkeepers of San Benedetto, as well as several residents of the neighborhood, to join together in a spontaneous Committee that has warned the mayor of Cagliari, Massimo Zedda, and the prefect Giuseppe Castaldo of the long series of thefts. "We are very worried and scared," the alarm of the committee, which is asking for concrete intervention by the police. " Regular complaints have been filed, the thieves continue to act calmly undisturbed . It seems they are committed by improvised thieves, who use rudimentary and obsolete methods. And in the streets, almost all of which have a damaged road surface, there is no adequate lighting." The committee's request is for help, "in the hope that they take to heart this emergency that involves thousands of citizens."
