Cagliari City Council employees who request it will be able to have their chosen name recognized in internal communications, email, identification badges, and the IT tools used in their daily work. This will be done without altering their official personal details, which will remain valid in all legally relevant administrative documents. The Council approves the Equal Opportunities Commission's document, which for the first time allows alias profiles for municipal administration workers .
The motion passed with the votes of the majority and Councilor Giuseppe Farris. A completely new development, Cagliari is the first southern Italian capital to introduce it: it recognizes the right to an alias, even for those who have not presented a medical certificate attesting to a gender transition. "It allows the use of one's name, the perceived gender identity and therefore already experienced in everyday life," explains Chiara Cocco, president of the Equal Opportunities Commission.
"By separating the alias profile from the presentation of a medical certificate, this possibility is granted arbitrarily to anyone. This circumstance has nothing to do with people with gender dysphoria," comments Corrado Maxia (FdI) .
