The archaeological site of Mont'e Prama continues to offer ancient treasures that tell another piece of Sardinian history.

In the construction site opened last July by the Superintendency, directed by archaeologists Alessandro Usai and Maura Vargiu, in the southern sector of the necropolis, fragments pertaining to nuraghe models emerged : they are part of those with nine towers discovered in 2016 and have since been exhibited in the civic museum of Cabras.

The two monumental sculptures will therefore be able to be recomposed to an even greater extent than previously hoped. Among the new discoveries there is also a powerful model of a nuraghe of the very rare square terrace type, almost intact and therefore easily modular which, once restored, will be able to fit into the museum exhibition.

Luigi La Rocca, General Director of Archeology of the Ministry of Culture: «The materials found allow us to deepen research and knowledge on the architecture of the Nuragic structures, in particular the highest parts, which are often absent in the preserved archaeological monuments».

Monica Stochino, Superintendent: «The excavation site will continue until June 2024 on a larger area than in the past and we hope it will return new elements useful for reconstructing the context around the necropolis, both in the Nuragic age and in the previous and subsequent ones ».

The project plans to extensively expand the archaeological research that the Superintendency has been carrying out on the site in a planned and systematic manner since 2014, both in the best-known sector of the necropolis, corresponding to the land of the Confraternity of the Rosary.
