Confirmation from the National Institute of Health is still pending, but the Oristano Local Health Authority (ASL) 5 has already acknowledged an initial investigation by the Institute for Animal Health: a case of nodular bovine dermatitis has been reported on a farm in Cuglieri.

The infectious viral disease, which affects only ruminants and is not transmissible to humans, has become an emergency for the livestock sector. Vaccinations are continuing in the province, but the Local Health Authority (ASL) believes it is necessary to speed up the process.

The case in Cuglieri—with 26 animals—is the first far from the area where the disease first appeared. All outbreaks were confined to Orani, Orotelli, Onifai, and neighboring towns, with "spikes" in Benetutti, Padru, and Bottidda.
