Oxen, yes or no. While discussions and meetings are underway to decide whether or not to allow animals to attend the Feast of Sant'Efisio , a decision called into question following the new outbreaks of bovine dermatitis reported in the Sarrabus area, the Cagliari City Council's animal rights guarantor has expressed its position on the issue.

On the Facebook page of L'Unione Sarda, among the comments on an article about the ongoing negotiations is one from Francesca Maria Cogoni , a lawyer who serves as the animal welfare guarantor for the Municipality of Cagliari: "They declare an epidemic, they cull healthy, vaccinated animals because they're close to other positive results... And then they should allow the movement of cattle in Campidano for a procession? Let's do without it and at least be consistent out of respect for the intelligence, the work of the people, and the protection of the animals."

In another comment, he specifies that "the comment is against the absurdity of unjustified slaughter , so unjustified that 15 days later they're considering allowing cattle movement. That's why I say, at least for consistency and out of respect, leave the oxen where they are."

The final decision on the presence of oxen is expected today. Discussions took place yesterday between the relevant regional departments and experts from the Ministry of Health. The European Commission may also be consulted on the matter.
