The funeral of Giuseppe Pinna, killed late Thursday morning by his son Paolo with screwdriver blows, took place on Sunday afternoon in Bosa.
Many wanted to pay their last respects to the 72-year-old by presenting themselves at the Co-Cathedral where the funeral was held, celebrated by the Bishop of Bosa-Alghero, Mauro Maria Morfino.
"I emphasize the tragedy, but also the fact that this father paid the price for caring for his son," the bishop said during his homily. But he also denounced "all those social and health irresponsibilites" that lead "to facing problems alone: a dramatic loneliness."
Paolo Pinna, who suffers from mental illness, is being treated at the Oristano Local Health Authority. After his arrest, he was taken from Uta prison to the hospital. He is severely distressed and in need of medical attention.
