Sigh of relief for the farmers of Northern Sardinia: the Local Health Authority of Sassari, implementing the provision of the regional health department and the indications of the ministry, has significantly reduced the restrictions on the movement of sheep due to the spread of the blue tongue .

Movements are now limited only in some municipalities in Meilogu , where the virus is still circulating.

The measure comes thanks to a greatly improving epidemiological situation and climatic conditions that are not favorable to the circulation of the vector insect , which acts by biting animals especially at night.

«Finally – declares the director of the Veterinary Service of the ASL Francesco Sgarangella – this transmitted disease is managed according to a risk analysis, avoiding unnecessary complications for the marketing of animals , while waiting for the vaccines that the Region is purchasing».

«In this situation – explains the director of the animal health service, Giuseppe Bitti – breeders can exploit this possibility which allows them to sell the animals especially towards the entry centers of the Peninsula. A path made possible also thanks to the definition, by the Ministry of Health, of the so-called seasonally free zones in which neither vector insects nor the virus circulate thanks to the cold night temperatures ".

The director of the ASL of Sassari, Flavio Sensi , is also satisfied and announces a meeting with the trade associations for January 9th to take stock of the situation.
