Gallura health system to be rebuilt. The extraordinary commissioner of the ASL of Olbia, Ottaviano Contu, explained to the mayors that the current corporate structure must be reviewed immediately. Contu spoke in front of the mayors, gathered for the session of the Gallura Socio-Health Conference. The commissioner indicated his priorities and objectives, rejected the custom of acting primary physicians (Contu wants permanent heads of departments), the aggregations of services and departments, the destructuring of the Tempio and La Maddalena hospitals (with an overload on the Giovanni Paolo II of Olbia).

Contu was clear about paid doctors: " This is a problem, staff without any skill take 1,200 euros a night . There is a disparity and it is an unsustainable situation". The spotlight is on the hospital in Olbia, understaffed and with doctors forced to endure extremely high workloads. For the extraordinary commissioner "difficult decisions will have to be made to deal with the situation". The mayors have declared that they appreciate Contu's pragmatic approach.

The disastrous condition of the Olbia Emergency Department remains, which is losing specialists and has no reinforcements (the doctors will go to Tempio and La Maddalena). The president of the Conference, and mayor of Tempio, Gianni Addis comments: «The commissioner has our full confidence. The problems are known. We are ready to collaborate, but now a decisive change of pace is needed. On some issues we need to act before the new corporate act».
