It is 42 years old and has a long series of breakdowns in its long history at sea. The Moby Zaza also went adrift yesterday, after a blackout on board, on the Porto Vecchio-Golfo Aranci route. And to think that the company had chosen it to cover connections with Corsica because another ship, the Giraglia, could no longer travel.
For the passengers, yesterday was yet another odyssey. But Moby downplays it: «At 10 pm the ship stopped due to a blackout in one of the generators, which although it was immediately restored, made us activate the safety measures».
For this reason, the carrier clarifies, "following the instructions of the port authority, we alerted the tug Mascalzone to tow it to port, even though the engines were already working. We thus waited for other ships to leave the port before attacking".
But will that old ship remain, with much longer travel times to travel between the two islands? "On board," Moby reassures, in response to the complaints of commuters, "there is no structural problem, it was an isolated incident that we promptly resolved, carrying out further checks on the mooring."
But the company also defends the choice of landing in Olbia, rather than Golfo Aranci: «We alerted the travelers already in the morning and not during the journey. Our choice was dictated by the adverse weather conditions».
Today and tomorrow, Zaza will not travel due to bad weather. «The Moby Tommy of the next few hours will disembark in Olbia instead of Porto Torres and the Livorno-Olbia connections will be carried out regularly».
