An 83-year-old man from the province of Nuoro has driven all his life without ever having obtained a driving license, convinced he could do so.

This is what he told the officers of the Bitti Traffic Police Detachment when they stopped him driving his moped and asked him to show a driving license document.

The man confided to the officers that he was convinced that a driving license was not necessary for low-powered vehicles and for this reason, as a young man, he had never taken the test. Nonetheless, for decades he drove vehicles throughout the entire province without problems and without anyone ever stopping him and asking for his documents.

For the man the inevitable sanction was triggered, accompanied by the stopping of the vehicle.

«The recommendation of the Traffic Police - we read in a note from the Police Headquarters - to all road users is to respect the rules of the Highway Code and to drive only when in possession of a driving license to avoid incurring in sanctions."
