The first phase of preliminary investigations commissioned by the municipal administration in the former private landfill of Barisone in Sennori has been completed.

In the site, closed in 2000 and subject to an investigation by the Sassari Public Prosecutor's Office for environmental pollution, permeable and impermeable areas were located, as well as the critical points that could have absorbed or allowed to filter polluting substances.

With the data now available to the designers, a further phase of direct investigations will be carried out, during which targeted and in-depth analyzes will be carried out to accurately trace the level and type of pollutants carried by the leachate that may have altered the soil and waters.

Once the type and degree of pollution have been classified, it will be possible to proceed with the study of an intervention plan to secure and restore the area.

"Taking action to secure and restore the site of the former Barisone landfill from an environmental point of view was a specific commitment that the administration had undertaken at the beginning of its mandate", comments the mayor, Nicola Sassu. "A responsibility that the previous administrations, for decades, had been careful to take on, ignoring the problem and which we now hope to complete in the next mandate. It is one of our priorities, because rehabilitating the former landfill is a duty to be fulfilled, to safeguard the health of citizens and the healthiness of the territory ".
