The Antiquarium Turritano National Archaeological Museum in Porto Torres will have a special opening on Sunday, December 14th, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., prior to the start of work to make the facility more accessible to visitors. Director Stefano Giuliani and museum staff will greet the public at the "Arrivederci a Turris" event, organized in anticipation of the temporary closure for the new exhibition, which will last several months starting December 15th. The archaeological area will remain open as usual, open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Following the director's introduction, a guided tour led by museum staff will focus on selected display cases and artifacts from the exhibition. The program will be enriched by musical interludes performed by the Cantori della Resurrezione choir, following their successful performance in December 2024. These interventions are an integral part of the renovation project for the Antiquarium museum and the Turris Libisonis archaeological site. The project responds to the real needs of the public, transforming the spaces and environments into welcoming and accessible venues for all types of visitors, with the prospect of hosting an increasing number of concerts and major cultural events. The work includes removing architectural barriers and improving the cognitive accessibility of the museum and archaeological site.
This is the second of three funded projects, a plan launched following the completion of the first energy efficiency project, already completed in October. The project, funded with approximately €400,000, included thermal insulation of the museum's window frames and the installation of a photovoltaic system in the roof.
The goal is to revolutionize accessibility by directly connecting the Turris Libisonis archaeological area to the Antiquarium museum, making the outdoor routes accessible to visitors. The project includes completely renovated spaces, new signage, and accessible routes for all.
