A reckless overtaking maneuver, an attempt to rejoin the lane before another car coming from the opposite direction, then a collision and a crash into a pole . This is how Mauro Sanna, 44, from Villaputzu, lost his life yesterday while driving his car on Provincial Road 2 on the border between the territories of Sestu and Assemini.

The accident involved another car, the one Sanna was trying to overtake. Inside , a woman from Sestu, a soldier, and her ten-year-old son went off the road and were hospitalized with critical condition at Brotzu Hospital . Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The tragedy occurred yesterday evening around 8:30 PM. The circumstances, which are still being ascertained, were described by those who witnessed the accident. However, it is clear that the cause of the crash was reckless overtaking: the victim, seeing oncoming cars, desperately tried to return to his lane, but while reentering, he rear-ended the car he was overtaking , triggering the fatal collision.

The emergency services, the Highway Police and the Fire Brigade were on site and had to wait a few hours for the magistrate's approval to remove the body.
