Active 24 hours a day, seven days a week, it was created to guarantee all Sardinians answers to non-urgent medical care. The new project that the regional emergency agency will launch in Sardinia from next spring is called "Harmonized European Number (Nea) 116 117".

A single operations center will be built in Nuoro , in the Areus premises in via Oggiano. The details were presented this morning by the company's CEO, Simonetta Bettelini, with the regional health councilor Carlo Doria and the public works councilor Pierluigi Saiu. The mayor of Nuoro, Andrea Soddu, was also there.

The Nea 116117 power plant will guarantee the following services:

  • services and/or medical advice not having urgent characteristics, during the opening hours of the Continuity of Care services;
  • methods of access to general practitioners/paediatricians of free choice even in the event of difficulty in finding them;
  • non-urgent health advice before and after the opening hours of Continuity of Care services;
  • identification and transfer (through Nue 112) to 118 of requests for urgent medical assistance;
  • access to the tourist medical service.

The service will be managed by 20 adequately trained technical operators, supported by 6 nurses present. The recruitment of technical staff has already started through Aspal of Nuoro.

In the meantime, the infrastructural adaptation works of the current registered office building of Aresu are being carried out, in the wing of the former monastery, where the neighborhood church once stood.

«Sardinia», explains councilor Doria, «is ahead of the curve on a service that is currently only active in a few regions. A service that enriches the healthcare offering of the area, completely integrated and coordinated with other services. 116117 will constitute a further filter that will allow for more modern and efficient management of assistance, allowing citizens to find an answer to their needs more easily and, at the same time, to reduce the impact on medical emergency points and especially in the emergency rooms."

In June, says my colleague Saiu, «in concert with the Health Department we presented the resolution for the financing of the intervention and the assignment of resources to OIS, Works and Infrastructures of Sardinia, the in-house company of the Region, which reports to the Department of Public Works and implementer of the intervention. We thus kept our commitments and the construction site began quickly."
