Two convictions for criminal association and prescription for crimes of maltreatment. The second degree trial on the "Alzheimer case" of Ittiri, in the Sassari area, in which 11 people were accused, including neurologists Giuseppe Dore and Marinella D'Onofrio and the regional councilor of UDC, closed today in the Court of Appeal in Sassari. - Let's change, Antonello Peru.

The court chaired by Plinia Azzena, alongside Marina Capitta and Maria Grixoni sentenced the two neurologists to 5 years for criminal association, partially reforming the first degree sentence and assigning sentences lower than those requested by the Attorney General Paolo De Falco. Accepting the request of the pg, the regional councilor Peru was acquitted of the charge of participation in a criminal association, for not having committed the deed. The court sentenced the defendants to pay the legal costs in favor of the civil parties, represented by the lawyers Danilo Mattana, Alberto Sechi Fabrizio Pintus.

THE ACCUSATIONS - According to the accusations, Dore, supported by a large list of doctors, health managers, nurses and even relatives of patients, in the clinic he directed in Ittiri was practicing psychoneuroanalysis, a therapy of his own invention against Alzheimer's and others forms of dementia. Therapy which, according to the accusations, was based on humiliation and beatings inflicted on the sick and was devoid of any scientific evidence regarding its effectiveness.

IN THE FIRST DEGREE - In the first instance the court, presided over by judge Mauro Pusceddu, had sentenced the Ittiri neurologist, Giuseppe Dore, to 8 years and 6 months in prison, interdiction for 5 years from public offices and for 3 years and 6 months from medical profession. Sentence to 4 years of imprisonment and 5 of disqualification from public office for the regional councilor Antonello Peru. By inflicting more severe penalties than those requested by the prosecutor Gianni Caria, he had also sentenced the other accused doctors to criminal association, Marinella D'Onofrio (9 years in prison), Massimo Lai (4 years in prison), the physiatrist Mario Piredda (3 years and 6 months).

Dore's right arm, Salvatore Fadda (4 years and 3 months), Gianfranco Dettori (2 years), Maria Giuseppa Irde (4 years and 3 months), Stefania Serra (3 years and 8 months), Elena Cossu (3 years and 8 months). Convictions today canceled by the appeal sentence.
