Alghero, the statue of the Lightning vandalized (even before the inauguration)
Someone tried to pry a finger off a painting of a dead soldierAn unpleasant surprise during one of the inspections at the construction site of the statue created by the artist Mario Nieddu, which is being installed in the Lepanto-Cecchini gardens in Alghero.
A work dedicated to the Folgore Paratroopers that was vandalized by unknown persons, even before the inauguration. Someone tried to detach one of the fingers of the hand of the statue depicting a deceased soldier.
"A despicable act against a symbol that represents a heroic page in Italian history, and on which I trust full light will be shed with the identification of those responsible", commented the Honorable Mauro Rotelli, president of the Environment, Territory and Public Works Commission of the Chamber of Deputies. "I express my total closeness to the Group XI section of Sassari of the National Association of Italian Paratroopers, and to its representative Pino Meloni".
Even Gioventù Nazionale Alghero , with a post on social media, stigmatized the gesture, expressing solidarity with the artist and the police.
