The “ Christ with the Crown ” by Nicolas Giovanni Marras , class 2A of the “F. Costantino”, is the image chosen to represent the rites of Holy Week in Alghero .

In recent days, the selection of the works took place, in collaboration between the Alghero-Bosa Diocese, the Confraternity of Mercy, the Municipal Administration and the Alghero Foundation, to identify the image that will accompany the communication of the Easter rites.

For the execution of this work, the student was inspired by the great Italian painter Guido Reni , in particular by the painting made in 1637 "Christ crowned with thorns".

The elaborate is made with the two-tone pointillist technique and is divided into two parts: in the upper part appears the majestic figure of Christ with his head surrounded by a crown of thorns, a symbol of humility that becomes triumph and royal greatness, of suffering victorious which is a message of life, hope and salvation for all. The physical suffering that shines through Our Lord's face remains held back and mitigated by the awareness of the salvific value of passion. In the lower part, the Catalan city is tinged with red. Christ from above watches over and protects the city of Alghero by showing the noblest human act: to die for others.

Human wickedness and at the same time the immensity of divine love emerge. God does not abandon anyone and the work invokes prayer and forgiveness.

On the sides of the composition there are delicate twigs of red coral to symbolize the blood of Christ shed for the salvation of humanity.
