After the umpteenth attack on a prison police officer in the Badu 'e Carros prison in Nuoro , the unions protested, announcing a sit-in for May 12 and turning directly to the Prefect asking to be summoned.

" The prison is now out of control, the situation is serious and nothing has happened after the many complaints made in recent months ," says Luca Fais , regional secretary of Sappe , who proclaimed the joint protest together with colleagues from Sinappe, Osapp, Uilpa , Cisl and Cgil .

«The last violent episode featured a prisoner who, after leaving his cell to make an authorized phone call, went into a rage and literally destroyed all the furnishings and other objects in the section. The policeman on duty, in stopping his fury, immobilized him waiting for reinforcements but he remained bruised ».

In this situation, continues Fais, "the prison administration has entrenched itself in a deafening silence. 59 agents are missing, the staff is forced to work endless shifts and still have to take advantage of the ordinary leave arrears , the security conditions continue to be extremely precarious and, despite the repeated requests for removal, the troublesome detainees who jeopardize safety continue to remain of the workers and the institution".

Full support also comes from the secretary general of Sappe Donato Capece : «We will take action in the prison administration department so that the just protests of Badu 'e Carros' colleagues find attention and the consequent measures necessary to safeguard the security of the prison. Penitentiary Police officers must go to work with the guarantee of not being insulted, offended or worse ».
