A woman was rescued on Sunday at Punta Tegge, in La Maddalena, after being swept out to sea while swimming. The incident occurred in the early afternoon. The swimmer was reportedly in difficulty due to the countercurrent, which was gradually pulling her away from the shore. Agostino Spanu, a lifeguard on duty at the beach, intervened, reaching the woman, about 250 meters from the shore, with his life raft.

The operation was successful, with no injuries to the swimmer, who was safely brought back to shore. Spanu himself reported the incident to the La Maddalena Harbor Master's Office and Coast Guard this morning.

This isn't the lifeguard's first major rescue. Last season, in August, he was involved in the rescue of a three-year-old Belgian boy, also in the sea, about twenty meters from the beach. This incident confirms the importance of lifeguard service on beaches, especially on days with strong winds and dangerous currents.
