The principle of equality and equal opportunities must be implemented and promoted regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or intersexuality: this is the objective of the bill filed in the Regional Council by the first signatory Camilla Soru, PD president of the Culture commission, and signed by all the majority councilors.
Among other provisions: the Region will be a civil party in trials for crimes linked to homophobia and transphobia, support will be guaranteed - including economic - to associations involved in the diffusion of an inclusive culture, intervention will be taken in the healthcare sector to provide adequate training to staff doctor who will deal with patients in the transition phase, reception measures will be introduced for those who remain homeless due to their sexual orientation.
«It is a measure of civility», explains Soru, who decided to bring the matter to the attention of the Council during the days of Sardinia Pride. The provision, he adds, «wants to offer everyone the opportunity to live their emotions fully, without the need to deny or hide it. With this bill we want to fill a legislative gap, make people feel safe and aware that the Sardinia Region feels the urgency of taking sides with them."
The most virtuous regions in this regard are Tuscany, Liguria, Piedmont and Umbria. Sardinia is behind: «In my role as an activist», underlines Soru, «I have dealt with many cases, which are many more than you think: boys and girls thrown out of their homes, trans people who are not protected in their new identities not even in the hospital. And with the proposal to constitute a civil party in the trials", he concludes, " we want to make it known that the Sardinians and Sardinia, in their territory, reject homophobia".
The associations Farmacia politica, Arc, CGIL Nuovi Diritti, Spqr, Agedo, UniCa Lgbt, Mos and Famiglie Arcobaleno also worked on the drafting of the bill.
