New storage spaces in the region, plastic transfers to the mainland and abroad , and, in Southern Sardinia, a new sorting center that could be operational by October. These are the main points that emerged from the meeting convened by the Regional Department for Environmental Protection to address the critical issues in the plastics supply chain. The meeting included the metropolitan cities, provinces, the Municipality of Sassari, ANCI Sardinia, the industrial consortia CACIP and CIPNES, CONAI, and COREPLA.

After the first meeting on August 12, the Councillor for Environmental Protection Rosanna Laconi shared with the wider area bodies the need to accelerate the identification of new storage areas .

To date, additional spaces for around 2,400 tonnes have been found, also with the assistance of the Region, while Corepla , the national consortium for the collection and recovery of plastic, has planned transfers of material to the continent and abroad .

"We need to go beyond emergency-related solutions alone," emphasizes Councilor Laconi. " We are asking Corepla for structural responses that take into account Sardinia's specific characteristics and the greater constraints resulting from its insularity."

An important perspective concerns the South of the Island, where the The Provincial Industrial Consortium of Cagliari (Cacip) is working on opening a selection centre which could become operational by October , helping to strengthen the supply chain and reduce critical issues in the southern area.

The issue will soon be addressed at the national level, within the Environment and Energy Commission of the Conference of the Regions , where the measures to be adopted will be reviewed in the presence of the Minister for the Environment and Energy Security.

ANCI Sardinia has confirmed its willingness to collaborate with the Region, Provinces, and Municipalities to prevent disruption in the area.
