Multi-organ donation was made to the San Francesco Hospital in Nuoro thanks to the generosity of the family of a 50-year-old Spanish man who died while on holiday in Sardinia with his family.

Even though the tragic event occurred far from his country and the rest of his family, the 50-year-old's wife and children expressed their consent to the donation.

The collection , carried out on August 24, was made possible thanks to the great teamwork of all the staff involved : Local Organ Procurement Coordination, Complex Anesthesia and Resuscitation Operating Unit, Hospital Management, Regional Transplant Center, Operating Block, Neurology, Urology, Analysis Laboratory, Radiology, Dermatology and Pneumology and all the departments involved.

"Faced with such profound grief, far from home, the family has performed an act of extraordinary generosity and profound human value. Our deepest thanks and support go to them," noted Francesco Trotta, General Director of the Nuoro Local Health Authority (ASL 3). "This donation demonstrates that solidarity knows no bounds and how the culture of giving can transform a tragedy into hope for others."

We therefore thank "all the professionals at San Francesco Hospital, the local collection coordinator, the Regional Transplant Center, and all the staff who, with their expertise, promptness, and sensitivity, made this collection possible. Their teamwork is once again an example of public health at the service of life."
