Two more weeks for sea urchin fishing in Sardinia. While in the recent past there was a total ban on harvesting due to the ever-increasing scarcity of specimens in the island's waters, in 2026 the Department of Agriculture has decided to extend the season.

The original schedule called for professional fishermen to continue their activities until May 2nd: from that date, sea urchins were supposed to disappear from the island's plates. However, this year's weather conditions have reduced the number of fishing days, severely impacting those in the industry.

Agriculture Councilor Francesco Agus welcomed the appeal of the "main trade associations," which "requested an extension of the sea urchin fishing season until Saturday, May 16, given that during 2026, actual fishing days were drastically reduced due to adverse weather conditions, Cyclone Harry , and a particularly harsh winter, which made the season particularly difficult."
