After the black smoke in the tender for the assignment of the maritime connection between Porto Torres and Asinara , the CGIL relaunches the proposal for a fleet of ferries to the smaller Sardinian islands managed by Arst, the Sardinian Regional Transport Company , is the main public transport company in Sardinia, totally controlled by the Region.

«We can't scream at the moon because this situation is the result of a series of serious mistakes made by politics - reads a note from the general secretary of Filt CGIL Sardegna Arnaldo Boeddu - «but given the current situation and the disinterest of private shipowners in this type of maritime service, deserted for the third time, it would not be wrong to dust off the proposal to allow Arst to present a project to carry out the maritime service starting with the connection to and from the island of Asinara".

With regard to the maritime territorial continuity with the smaller islands of La Maddalena, Carloforte-Calasetta and Asinara , according to Boeddu «the problem with these maritime services, as well as for air ones, is that they cannot be linked to the market but to an essential service which the Sardinians cannot do without it».

And again: «When, again due to the responsibility of the junta led by the centre-right (Cappellacci as president and Solinas as transport commissioner), Saremar failed because it was condemned by the EU following an infringement due to connections to and from the Peninsula for state aid, I proposed the constitution of a special maritime division within the Arst. In this way, in addition to safeguarding all employment and income levels, one would have come out of exclusive market logics by being able to entrust the service in-house. Unfortunately, the centre-left council did not accept this proposal and decided to put the service out to tender, also providing for the sale of the ferry boats».
