It's been a fiery afternoon in Quartu, where the Forestry Corps, with the support of a helicopter from the Villasalto operations base (later joined by another aircraft), along with firefighters and NOS civil protection volunteers, are working to extinguish a large fire that broke out between Via Segrè and Fornaci Picci, bordering Via Brigata Sassari.

The DOS, the director of firefighting operations for the Cagliari forestry station, was on site coordinating the firefighting operations. Driven by strong winds, the flames devoured hectares of reeds and brushwood, causing concern in nearby homes.

The teams only got the better of the flames around 7:30 pm, when after more than six hours of work the clean-up operations began.

The day didn't start out well with another fire this morning, again in Quartu, in Pitz'e Serra: again involving brushwood, near a school, but fortunately no significant consequences.

Numerous requests for intervention reached the fire brigade switchboard, which is working on various fronts. The most significant fires broke out in Elmas, near the railway line, and in Decimomannu.
