A cyclist was hit and killed by a car this morning on State Road 128, between Mandas and Senorbì .
The accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but the cyclist was already dead when they arrived.
At first, it was difficult for the Carabinieri from Senorbì and Gesico, who arrived on the scene with station commander Mandas, to identify him: the victim had no documents with him and his phone was blocked. Then the officers identified him: Marco Lonis, 66, from Senorbì. The driver of the car, a Citroën C3, was a 43-year-old woman.
The impact, which caused Lonis's body to smash through the vehicle's windshield, may have been caused by poor visibility due to the sun, which was still low on the horizon at that time. However, to be certain, we need to await the results of the investigation.
