The Burcei – Maracalagonis road becomes reality after more than twenty years of waiting. The Metropolitan City of Cagliari has awarded the integrated contract relating to the final design and execution of the works of the first lot of the intervention called " Construction of the Burcei-Sinnai-Maracalagonis connection road - SS 125" , which will shorten distances and times distance between the territory of Burcei and the metropolitan area of Cagliari.

A very important road for the development of the territory and not only of Burcei. Many years ago it was the entrepreneur-publisher Sergio Zuncheddu who donated the first project on the track to the Municipality . An articulated, concrete study aimed at creating development, tourism and the economy for the benefit of a vast territory. At the time Burcei was administered by a commissioner, Dr. Murgolo. It took years. Now everything is a reality with the financing and the contract for the work: in a year we could see the start of the works.
The intervention, for which a total of almost 40 million euros has been allocated, is financed with resources from the Sardinia Region, largely from the 2014-2020 Development and Cohesion Fund, with own funds from the Metropolitan City of Cagliari and with resources from the PNRR.
"Finally, a work that has been awaited for twenty years will see the light, crucial for the future of the Burcei area", comments the metropolitan mayor Paolo Truzzu with satisfaction. "Although today it is not administratively part of the Metropolitan City, the Municipality of Burcei is historically linked to the urban area of Cagliari both from an economic and social point of view, and it is our intention to further strengthen ties with the Burcerese community", underlines Truzzu.

«The new connection has the general objective of breaking the isolation of Burcei and the specific one of offering an alternative opportunity for a faster and safer connection to this area, particularly in the winter season, when the frequent frosts make it extremely dangerous current itinerary, made up of the SS 125 and the SP 21», explains the metropolitan councilor responsible for traffic management Antonello Floris.

The satisfaction of the mayor of Burcei Simone Monni and of the other mayors and administrators who preceded him was great. "We are talking about an extraordinary event - says Monni - We are talking about a road destined to remove Burcei from his isolation on which to plan a future linked to the Cagliari hinterland with which Burcei has deep roots".

The mayor of Sinnai, Tarcisio Anedda : «This is a road that has always been awaited and not only by Burcei: a road that guarantees the future and development not only of tourism».

The mayor of Maracalagonis Francesca Fadda : "Projects that create development and well-being are welcome: as far as we are concerned we will soon have a meeting with the metropolitan city in this phase in which variations can also be made for the benefit of all".

ROUTE – The new route will develop on a 15.7 km route , approximately 7 km lower than the existing one, and will take into account the strategic objectives while maintaining the lowest possible environmental impact . The road will cross the territories of the Municipalities of Burcei, Sinnai and Maracalagonis and will plug directly into the new Cagliari ring road in the Municipality of Maracalagonis, allowing vehicular flows arriving from Burcei to quickly integrate into the main network of the vast area.
The first section will begin in the southern peripheral area of the town of Burcei, will cross the south-western mountainous area of the territory and after about 12.7 km will join the local road which, starting from km 22 of the old SS 125, near of the Villaggio dei Gigli, develops in a westerly direction up to the town of Maracalagonis. The second section will develop for about 1.8 km until it intersects the SP 16. The third section will follow the existing route of the SP 16 south-west direction for about 1.2 km and will reach the old SS 125 near km 15 .
