Tragic accident in Lusevera, in the upper Val di Torre (Udine).

Two people were charred to death after the crash of an ultralight : they are Alessio Ghersi, 34, captain of the Air Force and pilot of the Frecce Tricolori , and a relative of his.

The accident took place around 18:30 yesterday, when some witnesses saw the aircraft crash wrapped in a cloud of smoke released after a flame or an explosion.

The aircraft, a Pioneer 300 registration I-8548, had taken off from Campoformido shortly before.

The area where the aircraft crashed is impervious and completely covered by vegetation, reachable only on foot.

The Air Force has expressed "condolences" for the death of Captain Ghersi and has announced that the traditional May 1st event in Rivolto (Udine) for the opening of the aerobatic season has been cancelled.

The Chief of Staff of the Air Force, general of the air force Luca Goretti, "on behalf of the entire Armed Forces, is clinging to his wife and their two children in this moment of profound pain", reads a note.
