A 24-year-old is under investigation for the double murder of two women which occurred yesterday in Naro, in the province of Agrigento. For the young man also the challenge of insulting a corpse.

The victims are Delia Zarniscu, 58, and Maria Rus, 54, both Romanian like the suspect. As regards the first crime, which occurred in via Vinci, the call to 112 was apparently made by the 24-year-old using the woman's phone.

One was stabbed with unprecedented violence and found in a pool of blood in the house, which had been turned upside down; the other would have been first killed and then placed on an armchair and set on fire.

"My mother never sat in that armchair - said Maria Rus' daughter, Marcela - preferring the other part of the house where the cell phone has reception". Of Delia Zarniscu, Marcela says she doesn't know if they were dating. Naro, like the nearby Canicattì, has a large community of Romanians who work, often illegally, in the countryside. «Romanians are integrated with the locals. There are many communities present in Naro, including those of unaccompanied North African minors", said the mayor Maria Grazia Brandara. "There are many Romanians in the village, people who know the problems my mother-in-law had with her husband and perhaps someone tried to annoy her", hypothesized Giuseppe, son-in-law of Maria Rus, who was found charred, lying on the floor of the entrance hall, at feet of the chair on fire.

The hypothesis, still to be supported by detectives and prosecutors, is that the double murder occurred in a context of degradation. Possibly, as they say in Naro, there could have been an alcohol-based party, which then degenerated.
