Two days after the arson attack along the railway tracks in Castel Maggiore (Bologna), where a homemade explosive device caused massive traffic disruption, the Forensic Police—working alongside colleagues from the Digos (Italian Special Operations Unit) and the Polfer (Italian Railway Police)—are focusing on the other unexploded device , which could provide biological traces and other useful information to investigators hunting for the perpetrators of the sabotage that took place on the opening day of the Milan-Cortina Olympics. Meanwhile, on the anarchist website sottobosko.noblogs, a claim of sorts has emerged: a statement in favor of the train attacks between Bologna and the Marche region, confirming investigators' belief that the attacks were motivated by that source.

The Bologna Public Prosecutor's Office has opened a case, currently against unknown persons, for conspiracy to commit terrorism and attacking transport safety, because the incendiary device burned the high-speed cables carrying railway signaling and train transit data. The investigation has been assigned to the Public Prosecutor's Office's "Terrorism" group, coordinated by Deputy Prosecutor Morena Plazzi.

The anarchist path is therefore the preferred one. "These Olympics couldn't have started better. On the morning of February 7th, the day of the opening ceremony of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Games of Shame, three railway lines were sabotaged and blocked until the afternoon," reads the message on the area blog. The text also refers to the security decrees "which become practically biannual opportunities to tighten the networks of repression and stifle any dissent." The invitation is to "arm ourselves with the tools of secrecy, of decentralizing the conflict and multiplying its fronts." Thus, the conclusion: "Fire to the Olympics and those who produce them."

Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini's harsh commentary: "We will do everything we can to close down these criminals' lairs, to pursue and ferret out these criminals wherever they hide, to jail them and oppose those who defend them. Long live the Olympics, a symbol of an Italy that builds, that excites, that never gives up."

After the seizure of the evidence was validated for suspected transportation security attacks, forensic technicians will now attempt to identify papillary and biological traces of the perpetrators on the remaining fragments of the activated incendiary device, and especially on the unexploded fragment. The malfunction could reveal a lot about who manufactured the detonator. The device found intact is homemade, consisting of a plastic bottle filled with flammable liquid and "diavolina" powder, with a timer.

These items can be easily found in stores or purchased online. The statements from the RFI technicians who intervened in Castel Maggiore will be submitted to the Prosecutor's Office in the coming hours. The connection to the other incident involving trains last Saturday, in Pesaro on the Ancona-Rimini line, is also being assessed. Damage caused by fire, disruption of public service, an attack on transport safety, and conspiracy to commit terrorism are the hypotheses listed in the investigation file opened by the Ancona District Anti-Mafia Prosecutor's Office. The two Prosecutors' Offices are in constant contact.
