Naples, Kalashnikov among crowd after brawl: three arrested
The man with the machine gun was identified by the Flying Squad coordinated by the DDA, there is also a womanThe Naples Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA) has issued an arrest warrant against three individuals, one of whom is a woman, who are seriously suspected, to varying degrees, of brawling, possession and illegal possession of a firearm, and shooting in a public place, aggravated by mafia-related practices.
The measure is the result of an investigation by the Flying Squad, launched after numerous reports yesterday of a violent fight that occurred in front of the Cumana railway station in Piazza Montesanto, followed by gunshots.
Investigators learned that some women had hidden a long gun, which had been held by one of the participants in the shooting, under a car parked near the square. The weapon, a Kalashnikov AK-47 submachine gun with a double magazine loaded, was found under a car parked a short distance from the scene of the incident.
Analysis of video surveillance footage in the area has allowed us to reconstruct the events and acquire serious evidence of guilt against the three suspects believed to be involved—along with several others currently being identified— in a violent brawl and then, subsequently, roaming around Piazza Montesanto armed, with one of them firing several shots in the air with a pistol.
The footage showed how, after the fight, one of the two men, brandishing a Kalashnikov submachine gun, wandered through the crowd with the long gun in his hand, while some people apparently tried to calm him down. Meanwhile, the other man, having retrieved a pistol from his car, fired several shots into the air into the crowd. The footage of the incident was also shared by various social networks and online news outlets, which posted videos taken by the large number of people present in the square at the time of the incident.
