Two young men aged 15 and 17 were run over and killed by a passing train in the late afternoon of today in Sondrio, Valtellina .
The tragedy took place near the small Berbenno station . The victims did not use the pedestrian underpass to cross the tracks and did not notice the arrival of the convoy. The driver of the train – bound for Milan Central Station – was unable to avoid the impact and stopped only 100 meters later.
State Police , Carabinieri and rescuers are now on site. The dynamics of the accident are still to be clarified.
