He takes an antibiotic, prescribed by his GP on the advice of his urologist. But there has been an AIFA alert on that drug since 2019 for serious and disabling adverse reactions . And now he is literally paralyzed with pain.

This is the agony of Fabrizio Gentili , 47 years old, married and father of two daughters, physics and mathematics teacher at the "Galilei" scientific high school in Macerata. The man launches an appeal to the Minister of Health Schillaci and the Minister for Disabilities Locatelli: "Someone help me heal, the State doesn't leave me alone because my life is destroyed."

«My ordeal began in July 2022 – says Gemtili – when I took an antibiotic from the fluoroquinolone family (Ciproxin, ed.) following a urinary tract infection . Drug that is prescribed to me by the family doctor on the recommendation of the urologist, on which, however, there is an AIFA alert from 2019, for adverse reactions, including serious and disabling ones, to the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system".

AIFA had recommended maximum caution in prescribing due to the severity of adverse reactions in healthy subjects: « And I, who was a super athlete, within a few weeks of taking it found myself in a wheelchair . The side effects of the antibiotic all manifested themselves with great violence on the tendons of my body, to the point of not being able to stand upright or even support my arms, so much so that my wife was forced to feed me."

Thus began «a long wandering around the hospitals in the Marche and even outside the region, but no one ever certified to me that my state of health was strictly related to the unwanted effects of the antibiotic ». And this prevents them from accessing any form of healthcare.

«After 17 months of illness and therefore with a significantly reduced salary - continues Gentili -, from now on I will also have to deal with a complicated economic situation».

Hence the appeal to the Government: «Please help me find a path that will allow me to recover, I know there are experimental treatments but they are very expensive . In my condition I discovered there is an army of several thousand people in Italy, we cannot be forgotten in our ordeal."
