Comforting news arrives from the Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome where, for two weeks, the archbishop emeritus of Sassari, Monsignor Paolo Atzei , 80, originally from Simala, in the province of Oristano, has been hospitalized.

Since yesterday he has been transferred from the neurology department of the hospital in the capital, where since 16 September he was kept under control by doctors, to the San Raffaele specialized center for neurological rehabilitation. An improvement in health conditions following the treatments and continuous monitoring of the health professionals who keep him under observation.

“This is positive news, - comments the community of Santa Maria di Betlem - since the antibiotic treatments seem to have had the effect that the doctors hoped for. We will now begin the long phase of rehabilitation and treatment that we want to accompany with our prayers ”. For the moment, visits are excluded, as recommended by the doctors. Father Paolo, as he liked to be called, former bishop of Tempio, had been struck by a cerebral ischemia while confessions were in progress in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. Since then the ecclesial community had prayed for him to recover soon. Monsignor Atzei after leaving the Archdiocese of Sassari had retired to the convent of San Francesco in Oristano.
