The Arena di Verona was seized by the public prosecutor who opened a file for culpable damage following the collapse of part of the comet with which the amphitheater was decorated at Christmas .

The accident occurred in the late morning, during the dismantling of the gigantic steel structure , 70 meters high and weighing 78 tons , which has been set up for Christmas between the Arena and Piazza Bra since 1984. The steel base tumbled along the steps, damaging them, and falling into the cavea . This area – fortunately – in winter is completely cleared of the armchairs that welcome the spectators during the opera performances and concerts in the summer.

At the time of the collapse there were no visitors inside the Arena because today, Monday, is closed to the public. The damage assessment by the technicians of the monuments area of the municipality of Verona and the Superintendence of archeology, fine arts and landscape of Verona is still in progress .
