A 63-year-old woman, 64 next October, has been the oldest mother in Italy for a few days.

The record birth, which will certainly cause discussion, took place at the «Versilia» hospital in Lido di Camaiore, in the province of Lucca. Mother Flavia, from Viareggio, gave birth to a premature baby weighing almost 2 kilos last Tuesday.

The woman lives with her elderly 93-year-old mother: she had long dreamed of becoming a mother herself and eight months ago she underwent in vitro fertilization treatment in a clinic in Kiev, Ukraine. A country at war where entering and exiting is very complicated but for Flavia it was worth it: there are no age limits for similar requests. And the considerable cost, 15 thousand euros of treatment without counting travel and accommodation costs, did not scare her.

She had already been to Ukraine in 2022 and became pregnant, but then suffered a miscarriage in the fourteenth week of pregnancy . This time everything went well, even if the baby was born prematurely with an emergency caesarean section , as established by his gynecologist who had noticed worrying values during a visit.

Mother and baby are fine: the little one is still in hospital, but as soon as he reaches the right weight he will be able to go home.
