Searches are underway at the request of the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office as part of the investigation into the "Squadra Fiore," a clandestine group—which included former law enforcement officers—that allegedly carried out dossier-gathering activities.
The investigation was conducted by the Carabinieri of the ROS special operations unit. The investigation is focused on the crimes of unauthorized access to a computer system, violations of privacy, and unauthorized practice of a profession. At the same time, searches are also being conducted for the investigation into fraud and embezzlement against former members of the secret service.
The operation involved seven people: the former number two at DIS, Giuseppe Del Deo, is under investigation for embezzlement. In the case involving Del Deo—when he was at AISI—prosecutors are alleging embezzlement of five million euros. According to the prosecution, the former 007 entrusted this money through contracts to the "friendly" company Sind, which at the time was managed by Enrico Fincati, also under investigation.
Carmine Saladino, former head of the Maticmind company, has been implicated in fraud. The two lines of investigation are linked based on wiretaps in which Del Deo is implicated in the Squadra Fiore investigation. The charges relate to alleged wrongdoing that began in 2022.
