The precocious cavities that for years prevented him from eating due to pain led to despair a 5-year-old Sardinian boy and his parents who reached the Misericordia hospital in Grosseto where the little one was finally treated.

"We no longer knew who to turn to, we had lost hope - says the mother -. We were desperate to see our child, so young, with that continuous pain in his teeth, caused by the numerous cavities that arose early, from the age of 2 years. He could not even chew well and refused to eat meat and any food that was too hard. "

"Having many cavities - he adds - conscious anesthesia was necessary, but three times it was not possible to intervene". The child, he explains, "being very small and already put to the test by this pathology, did not show himself to be completely cooperative". Therefore general anesthesia was essential "but in Sardinia there is no structure that practices this type of intervention, we felt powerless and this annihilated us".

Therefore, the family first turned to the Meyer pediatric hospital in Florence which then referred them to Grosseto.

"When we visited the child - explains the director of dentistry, Alessandra Romagnoli - it immediately became clear that the situation was complex and that we could only intervene with total anesthesia". "Here in Grosseto - he underlines - we have performed numerous interventions of this kind, we have anesthetized the child and in less than an hour we have carried out all the necessary interventions".
