Serena Mollicone's death "was not immediate, her agony lasted from one to ten hours and therefore she could have been saved."

This was stated by the consultant of the Prosecutor's Office, Cristina Cattaneo of the University of Forensic Medicine of Milan, as part of the appeal process underway before the judges of the Court of Assizes of Appeal of Rome for the murder of the 18-year-old from Arce , center in the province of Frosinone, found dead on 3 June 2001 in the Anitrella woods.

The defendants, all acquitted in the first degree for charges ranging from murder to aiding and abetting, are Franco Mottola , former commander of the Arce police station, his son Marco and his wife Anna Maria . And again: the carabinieri Francesco Suprano and Vincenzo Quatrale, the latter for instigating the suicide of Santino Tuzi, who committed suicide.

According to the consultant, Mollicone died «between 1.30 pm and 8 pm on June 1st 22 years ago. He had a head injury without bleeding – added Cattaneo -. A moderate blow to the skull and she died slowly from asphyxiation."

The consultant added that the young woman's skull is "compatible with the hole found in the door of the guesthouse of the Arce police station. The head impacted the zygomatic arch."
