No stop to the limited number at the Faculty of Medicine .

This was stated by Health Minister Orazio Schillaci on Tg1 Mattina . The proposal, raised by several parties including the Sardinia Region with the president Christian Solinas, was intended to overcome the problem of the shortage of doctors at least in the long term.

The government has decided to act differently: « There will be an enlargement of the number programmed for Medicine, but not an exceeding of the limited number. Starting this year, the number of registrants will increase by 20-30% ».

However, added the minister, « the real shortage, which is not only Italian, is on nurses . We have a pension hump on doctors, but in reality there aren't that many shortages. The number of students enrolled in Medicine will be increased but the results will be seen in 6-8 years. So we must act to bring doctors back into the public by making the national health system more attractive. On the nurses instead we are looking for solutions ».
