Tumbarello's relationship with Messina Denaro, writes the investigating judge, dates back to the 1990s . The doctor's name appears in an old investigation into the former mayor of Castelvetrano Antonio Vaccarino. Vaccarino, a Freemason, a friend of the boss's family, turned to the doctor to arrange a meeting with Salvatore Messina Denaro, brother of the former fugitive and prominent mafioso.
