Tragedy in Salento , where a woman was killed at home by her son who, according to initial reports, hit her on the head with an axe . It happened in Racale, in the province of Lecce. The man then fled and was stopped a few hours later by the Carabinieri.

The victim's name was Teresa Sommario, a 53-year-old born in Germany and resident in Racale where she lived with her son, Filippo Manni, aged 21.

The military of the Casarano company and the investigative unit of Lecce intervened on site.

After the murder, the young man was wandering around the town and it seems that a passerby noticed him and reported his presence to the military. Manni was then taken to the barracks for questioning.

The victim had been separated for some time from her husband, Daniele Manni, who in the past had been a councilor for public works in the municipality of Racale. The couple has three children, in addition to the 21-year-old, the eldest, there are two twins born in 2007, one of whom was at home at the time of the murder. It seems that the young man did not hear screams or signs of an argument, he only heard a commotion in the house and when he went down to see what was happening he found his mother dead.

Filippo Manni was a boy scout and the weapon used is a small hatchet used by boy scouts. As far as we know, the young man studies Economics in Rome and had returned home a few days ago to participate in the patronal festival dedicated to San Sebastiano that was held last Saturday. Neighbors speak of a quiet family.

The mayor of Racale Antonio Salsetti also arrived at the scene of the murder.
