A fatal illness, while he was at the bar with friends. He put his hands on his chest and slumped to the ground. Rescue was immediate for Vincenzo Deiana, a native of Nughedu Santa Vittoria and for years a resident of Alife, in the Caserta area, but everything was in vain.

The man, a recently retired ex-truck driver, like so many mornings went to the bar to get a coffee when he suddenly felt ill.

An ambulance arrived on the spot and transported the man to the hospital first in Piedimonte Matese, then - as his condition worsened - in Caserta. Doctors tried to save his life, to no avail. Deiana died shortly after of a heart attack.

The news spread immediately in his country of origin in Sardinia, arousing great emotion.
