The hearing before the Review lasted an hour and a half to discuss the appeal for the revocation of the house arrest to which the president of the Liguria Region Giovanni Toti, involved in a corruption investigation, has been subjected since 7 May.

At the end the judges reserved their rights and the decision on the governor's request - who was not present in the courtroom - will arrive in a couple of days.

«I reiterated the requests of this defense - explained Toti's lawyer Stefano Savi - because for us the requirements of this measure no longer exist or, at least, they now exist in an attenuated form. The prosecutor's office insisted on its position, namely that the governor must remain under house arrest."

«As for the elections – explained the lawyer – the next ones scheduled concern the renewal of the Regional Council, and cannot be considered a current risk, given the distance of one year and three months from their celebration, nor concrete, given that Giovanni Toti will not participate ».
