Alfredo Zenucchi confessed to the Carabinieri in La Spezia that he had killed his wife, Rossella Cominotti .

The crime apparently occurred as part of an attempted suicide by both.

In fact, the initial investigations by the Carabinieri revealed the expressed desire of both to take their own lives.

How things happened is not yet clear, but neither sentimental or jealousy nor economic motivations emerged from the initial investigations.

From what we understand, the couple, who had been missing for two weeks, took a room in a hotel in Mattarana, a hamlet of Carrodano, in the La Spezia area. Here   Zenucchi killed his 53-year-old wife with a razor. Afterwards he would also have had to take his own life, but the attempt would not have been successful and therefore the man would have decided to end it in another way.

Zenucchi was then stopped in Lunigiana, after the alarm raised by the hotel staff, who upon entering the hotel room found the lifeless body of Rossella Cominotti.
