The human bones found in a forest in Gressan, on the outskirts of Aosta, last June 27, by two mushroom hunters have been identified. The remains were located near an improvised camp among some trees and belonged to a 72-year-old from Quart, missing since 2021.

In the absence of documents, the carabinieri in the investigative unit of the Aosta operations department traced his identity starting from the vials of insulin found scattered nearby: through the lot and the pharmacy where they had been sold, they reached the patient to whom they had been prescribed.

The person who reported the disappearance was his great-grandson , living outside the region, to whom the man had sent a letter a few days earlier. DNA analysis confirmed the identity. According to the military, violent death should be ruled out.
