A helicopter that left Oristano and was headed to Sondrio crashed in an area on the border between Tuscany and Liguria. The civilian aircraft would have fallen and then caught fire in Fontia, in the hilly area of Carrara on the border with the territory of Luni (La Spezia).

The accident occurred shortly after 1pm, in the morning he had stopped on the island of Elba to refuel and left around midday: medical aid arrived at the site of the tragedy, an inaccessible and difficult to reach area, firefighters, police and carabinieri.

According to initial reconstructions, the aircraft began to lose altitude and then crashed to the ground. On board there was only the pilot, who was a 28-year-old woman, the search is still ongoing.

The police at Luni station raised the alarm, alerted by a restaurateur in the area.

Mauro is the name of the owner of the restaurant who raised the alarm, his testimony: «I heard a big bang, then I saw the smoke. Helicopters often pass here but today that helicopter made a strange noise. I noticed it because it was right above the restaurant. A very strange noise. Then I heard a big bang and I went outside. It was then that I saw the black smoke and immediately called the police."
