The Council of Ministers is considering abolishing the car tax for small and medium-sized vehicles, those mostly used by families for daily travel.

The exemption also applies to motorcycles, but each citizen will be entitled to only one concession.

The measure affects all motorcycles and over 70% of cars currently on the road, approximately 14.5 million vehicles overall.

The initiative aims to reduce the tax burden on car and motorcycle ownership for a very broad group of Italians.

"Today the government is eliminating one of the taxes most hated by Italians," declared Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
